Usage
Cholic acid is a metabolite related to both the host and the microbiota. It appears as colorless flakes or white crystalline powders. It regulates the host's immunity and the virulence of microorganisms. After being synthesized within the host, cholic acid is secreted into the intestine, where microorganisms can further metabolize it into various types of primary and secondary cholic acids. These acids have been found to play roles in host immune regulation and antibacterial activities.
Used in biochemical research and as a pharmaceutical intermediate. Sodium cholate is a bile-promoting drug, used to treat conditions such as cholecystitis, bile deficiency, and intestinal indigestion.
An organic acid with a steroid structure, which can emulsify fats and enhance their digestive effect.
