Usage
Sodium PCA, also known as sodium pyrrolidone carboxylate, is used in cosmetics as a moisturizer, skin conditioner and antistatic agent. It is a natural component of the skin and also an excellent moisturizer. It has the function of strengthening keratin and is used to enhance the skin's own moisture retention ability. SodiumPCA is a naturally occurring moisturizer in human skin and a major component of the stratum corneum. It has strong moisturizing properties and is an amino acid derivative. Sodium PCA has A very high water absorption capacity and can absorb moisture from the air. Its hygroscopicity is comparable to that of hyaluronic acid (H·A) and is far stronger than that of humectants such as glycerin, propylene glycol, and sorbitol. It is a transparent, colorless, odorless liquid with a slightly salty taste. It can combine water with cells and hold several times its own weight in water. Sodium PCA delivers moisture to hair and skin and is used as an emollient or moisturizer in hair conditioners and moisturizers. It can also be found in shampoos, hair sprays, hair gels, skin fragrances and various other hair and skin products. The CIR approved sodium concentration limit for PCA is 4%. PCA-Na is soluble in water. It is slightly soluble in organic solvents. Under the same temperature and concentration, its viscosity is much lower than that of other moisturizers. It does not have the sticky and heavy feeling of glycerin. Moreover, it is highly safe and has almost no irritation to the skin and eye mucosa.
