Ortho-Phenylphenol (OPP) is a very versatile organic chemical product, widely used in areas like antibacterial and preservative applications, textile additives, surfactants, stabilizers and flame retardants for new plastics, resins, and polymer materials. OPP and its sodium salt have broad-spectrum antibacterial and antifungal properties, and they are low in toxicity and odorless, making them good preservatives. They can be used to prevent mold and keep fruits and vegetables fresh, particularly suitable for citrus fruits, and can also be applied to lemons, pineapples, pears, peaches, tomatoes, cucumbers, etc., helping minimize spoilage.

High concentrations of ortho-phenylphenol are suitable for inhibiting fungal growth (fungistatic action) or even for killing fungi (fungicidal action). 1. Ortho-phenylphenol can be used as a mold inhibitor and a preservative for fruits and vegetables. It's mainly used to prevent mold on citrus peels, with a maximum usage of 3.0 g/kg and a residue limit of no more than 12 mg/kg. 2. It can be used as a carrier in the carrier dyeing of hydrophobic synthetic fibers like chlorinated fibers and polyester, as a surfactant, a bactericidal preservative, and a dye intermediate. 3. It's a reagent for fluorescent determination of glycerol compounds and also a dye intermediate. 4. It can act as a deoxyribonuclease (DNase) inhibitor and as a reagent for analyzing glycerol. 5. This compound is used for strong antibacterial purposes, as a preservative for wood, leather, and paper, as well as for storing fruits, vegetables, and meat.
