 Usage

1. Application of CMC in Food

As an additive in food, CMC (Carboxymethyl Cellulose) integrates multiple functions, including thickening, suspending, emulsifying, stabilizing, shape-retaining, film-forming, puffing, anti-corrosion and freshness-preserving, acid resistance, and health benefits. It can replace guar gum, gelatin, agar, sodium alginate, pectin, and other substances in food production, and is widely used in the modern food industry, such as in cold products, solid beverages, fruit juices, jams, lactic acid beverages, condiments, biscuits, instant noodles, baked goods, and meat products.

2. Application of CMC in Toothpaste

Toothpaste is a dispersion system composed of various ingredients, such as abrasives, humectants, thickeners, foaming agents, fragrances, and water. Sodium carboxymethyl cellulose is one of the important raw materials in toothpaste. Its role in toothpaste is to uniformly mix the liquid and solid raw materials of toothpaste, endow the toothpaste with moldable fluidity, appropriate viscosity, a certain degree of brightness and fineness, and homogenize and emulsify powder and liquid materials into a stable suspension. It plays an extremely important role in the stability and spreadability of toothpaste.

3. Application of PAC and CMC in Oilfield Drilling Fluids and Completion Fluids

PAC (Polyanionic Cellulose) and CMC are used in drilling fluids and completion fluids for oil exploration. In drilling fluids, they are mainly used as viscosifiers, rheology controllers, and fluid loss reducers, with functions such as strong suspension capacity, efficient cuttings-carrying ability, cuttings cleaning, wellbore stabilization, prevention of mud loss, drill bit protection, and reduction of filter cake thickness. In completion fluids, they mainly function to control fluid viscosity, suspend heavy materials, carry fillers, and prevent fluid loss; when used in fracturing fluids, they can replace guar gum.

4. Application of CMC in Mining Industry

In the mining industry, CMC can be used as a pellet binder and flotation depressant. As a raw material for mineral powder molding binders, CMC is an indispensable component in pellet production—it improves the properties of wet pellets, dry pellets, and roasted pellets, with excellent binding and pelletizing performance. The green pellets produced have good explosion resistance, high dry/wet pellet compressive strength and drop strength, while also increasing the pellet grade. Additionally, CMC serves as a regulator in the flotation process, mainly used as a silicate gangue depressant; it is used for lead depression in copper-lead separation and sometimes as a slime dispersant.

5. Application of CMC in Ceramic Industry

CMC can be used in ceramic green bodies, glaze slurries, and colored glazes. When used in ceramic green bodies, CMC enhances the plasticity of sand-clay materials, facilitating green body molding and increasing the flexural strength of green bodies, making it an excellent reinforcing agent. In glaze slurries and colored glazes, CMC acts as a binder, providing suspension, deflocculation, and water-retention effects.

6. Application of CMC in Papermaking Industry

CMC exhibits many excellent properties in papermaking processes, attracting the attention of paper engineers and being widely used in the production of paper and paperboard—such as in the coating and processing of paper and paperboard, as a coating rheology modifier, water retainer, film-forming agent, auxiliary adhesive, wet-end retention and strengthening agent for paper machines, surface sizing agent, pulp refining aid, filler modifier, and flocculant for papermaking wastewater treatment. Our company offers CMC products for papermaking in different grades to meet the needs of various customers.

7. Application of CMC in Coating Industry

As a macromolecular compound, CMC has a multi-chain structure. After hydration and swelling, its linear chains unfold, extend, and interact to form a network colloid. Meanwhile, the macromolecular chains with hydroxyl groups undergo hydration with water, forming entanglements and increasing the viscosity of the aqueous phase. CMC has good compatibility with water or organic solvents, as well as with pigments. In the coating industry, it is often used as a thickener, dispersant, water retainer, and stabilizer.

8. Application of CMC in Textile Industry

CMC can form films that are strong, rigid yet quite flexible and wear-resistant. These films have good adhesion to fiber surfaces, while also endowing warp yarns with sufficient elongation properties—enhancing the strength of fabrics during manufacturing and improving production efficiency. Additionally, CMC can play a thickening role, making it widely applicable in the textile industry for warp sizing, textile printing, and fabric finishing.

9. Application of CMC in Lithium-Ion Batteries

Sodium carboxymethyl cellulose is a high-performance new type of monionic cellulose ether. It is used in lithium-ion batteries or as an advanced new functional material in various fields. The main characteristics of the product are: it can be used as a high-performance water-soluble dispersant, suspension stabilizer, and auxiliary binder in lithium batteries, which can well disperse negative electrode materials to form a uniform and stable battery slurry for subsequent coating processes.

10. Other Applications of CMC and Our Product Range

CMC has a wide range of uses and strong adaptability, making it an indispensable raw and auxiliary material in many industrial fields. It is one of the best active additives in the synthetic detergent industry, with emulsifying, thickening, homogenizing, and protective colloid functions. In the welding electrode industry, it serves as a lubricant and gas generator, featuring good extrudability, lubricity, and anti-shedding performance.
In addition to sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), our company also provides other cellulose ether products, such as ammonium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC-NH₄), lithium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC-Li), and potassium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC-K).
