Zinc borate is a high-performance, environmentally friendly inorganic flame retardant integrating flame retardancy, smoke suppression and anti-dripping properties. Its core component is 2ZnO·3B₂O₃·3.5H₂O, and it appears as an irregular or rhombic white or pale yellow powder. With excellent chemical stability and processing adaptability, it is a preferred material for safety upgrading in the rubber and plastic, coating, wire and cable industries.
The product boasts outstanding thermal stability, gradually losing crystal water only above 320℃. It does not decompose or volatilize in high-temperature processing technologies such as extrusion, injection molding and spraying, and can maintain stable flame-retardant efficiency. It is insoluble in common organic solvents such as water, ethanol, benzene and acetone, but easily soluble in hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). With excellent dispersibility, it has good compatibility with various substrates including PVC, PE, PP, rubber and resin, and does not affect the appearance, mechanical strength or aging performance of the finished products after addition.
In terms of flame-retardant mechanism, zinc borate reduces temperature through endothermic decomposition at high temperatures, releases crystal water to dilute flammable gases, and forms a dense glassy protective layer to isolate oxygen, thus achieving triple effects of flame retardancy, smoke suppression and anti-dripping. It can be used synergistically with aluminum hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide and organophosphorus flame retardants to significantly improve the flame-retardant grade of materials. It can also partially replace traditional flame retardants such as antimony trioxide, effectively reducing the formula cost.
This product is non-toxic, odorless and pollution-free, complying with international environmental protection and flame-retardant standards. It is widely used in fields such as wires and cables, fire-resistant coatings, plastic pipes, rubber products and unsaturated polyester resins. Whether for high-end material modification in industrial production or safety compliance requirements of civil products, zinc borate can provide reliable flame-retardant solutions, helping enterprises achieve product upgrading and compliant production.
