Usage
This product is used as a solvent for various oils and fats, lignin, nitrocellulose, cellulose acetate, alcohol-soluble dyes, and synthetic resins; a reagent for determining iron, sulfates, and carbon disulfide; a diluent for coatings; and in the packaging and sealing of cellophane, quick-drying varnishes, and enamels. It can also be used as a penetrant and leveling agent in the dye industry, or as a plasticizer and brightener. As an intermediate in the production of organic compounds, ethylene glycol monomethyl ether is mainly used in the synthesis of acetate and ethylene glycol dimethyl ether. It is also a raw material for the production of bis(2-methoxyethyl) phthalate plasticizer. The mixture of ethylene glycol monomethyl ether and glycerol (ether:glycerol = 98:2) is an additive for military jet fuel, which can prevent freezing and resist bacterial corrosion. When ethylene glycol monomethyl ether is used as an anti-sludging agent for jet fuel, the general addition amount is 0.15% ± 0.05%. It has good hydrophilicity. In fuel, its own hydroxyl groups form hydrogen bond associations with the molecules of trace water in the oil. In addition, its own freezing point is very low, thus reducing the freezing point of water in the oil and preventing the water from precipitating as frost. Ethylene glycol monomethyl ether is also an anti-microbial additive.
It serves as a reagent for the determination of iron, sulfate and carbon disulfide, and acts as a solvent for various oils and fats, lignin, nitrocellulose, cellulose acetate, alcohol-soluble dyes and synthetic resins.
